Dubai World Central - Al Maktoum International Airport

The new Al Maktoum International Airport was opened in 2010. There is a much larger airport in central Dubai, but this was were we landed. The airport is today very small, but it has the ambition to be the world's largest! That feels very far away though, since the departure of our plane was delayed for 1.5 hour despite it was almost the only plane on the airport and all passengers went there in time! It is part of the Dubai World Central project that will be the world's first logistics hub, and the airport focuses much on cargo. The airport is situated in Jebel Ali, a long drive south of Dubai with no metro communications of the city. It has been named after the former ruler of Dubai.

The airport is situated in Jebel Ali, almost an hour drive south of Dubai.

The atmosphere on the airport is very slow and relaxed. There are only a few small stores and restaurants on the airport.

The control tower has a sweeping design.

After landing, at sunset, about 6 in the evening.
