Place de la Concorde

On a rainy cold and grey day, took the metro to Place de la Concorde and walked in rain through the Tuileries district. The goal was Le Louvre.

Place de la Concorde. This famous place is not so glamorous as you could imagine.
May be it was the rain that was affecting us. Some days it is chaotic and heavily trafficated, but was calm at this moment.

The Luxor Obelisque was a gift from Egypt. It is 24m high and 3300 years old! Ludvig XVI was excecuted on Place de la Concorde.

The palace looking building is the government building Hôtel de la marine. Place de la Concorde has 2 fountains and 8 statues symbolising French cities. The place is the goal for the triumph parades along Champs-Elysées on the national day.

Jardin de Tuileries

Jardin de Tuileries. This is the 300 year old baroque gardens that lead through Place de la Concorde to Le Louvre.

From this point in Jardin de Tuileries you can see both the Luxor Obelisque and Arch of Triumph at the same time.
