Cabo da Roca (Cape Roca)
- Sintra-Cascais Natural Park
Cabo da Roca (Cape Roca) is Europe's Westernmost point. This high rock, part of the Sintra Mountain Range, is situated
on a height of 140m.
It is an idealic daytrip from Lisbon, part of the Sintra municipality, near the Azóia village, southwest of Lisbon. You take the train to Cascais and from there take a white bus that goes through winding roads and passes in high speed right next to steeps, roads high above the Atlantic Ocean. At Cabo da Roca there are not many buildings, the most significant structures are a lighthouse and a monument with a cross that marks Europe's Westernmost point. Cabo da Roca is close to both the inland town of Sintra with its fairy tale castles and green mountains, and the city Cascais, where you find beaches and the rocks are lower.
