The Tower of London- Crown Jewels, White Tower, Bloody Tower, Prison Tower, Ravens
The Tower of London is one of Londonäs most famous sights. It is both a historical fortress, a museum and a defense tower and an infamous prison in the past, about 1000 years old. Here you find the Crown Jewels. Kings and queen were demonstrating their power here. It is situated in East London, overlooking the Thames. The fortress still guards still guards the Crown Jewels. The black ravens are famous, that can be seen around the fortress. We visited London two times without visiting the Tower but in 2022 I visited the Tower of London for the first time. What was striking when I entered the gates of the Tower, is that the exteriors is just a a wall with rooms, that surround other buildings in diferent styles and greenery, with the White Tower that is the building that is often pictures as the Tower, in the middle. Moats are surrounding the fortress. You can walk along the roofs of the walls. In the White Tower, that is the main building in the middle, there is a museum on several floors with armor, horses, weapons, sculptures etc. The historical atmosphere is not that wellkept unfortunately, with modern displays and so on. Uniformed guides are telling dark but funny stories. There is also the Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula, the Bloody Tower, the Prison Tower, the Torture chamber, the Tower's Mint and the Fusilier Museum. I visited the structure where the Crown Jewels are, but unfortunately photos were not allowed, the guard told me. Next to the Tower is the Tower Bridge (completed 1896), that is the most iconic bridge in London with its two 65m tall towers that has an uupper panorama bridge. The Tower is now surrounded by skyscrapers, and the Shard stands opposite it on the other side of River Thames.
